Goldman Sachs Group’s new San Francisco workplace bears few of the buttoned-down Wall Avenue markings the New York funding financial institution sometimes sports activities. The vibe is decidedly West Coast startup, and that’s the way in which Jeff Winner likes it.

Employed in January to run what’s going to finally be an 80-person workplace, Winner helps lead the engineering workforce for Marcus by Goldman Sachs, the agency’s digital shopper financial institution that’s supposed to absorb $1 billion in income by 2020. Competing for expertise with the likes of Google and Amazon.com means out with bespoke fits and in with denims and sneakers.
