Ultra Ultra, the Danish studio founded by former developers from IO Interactive, has revealed a new video for its debut title, a third-person sci-fi adventure called Echo. The developers have put together a short let’s play through one of the levels showing off some gameplay elements. What follows is a mixture of stealth, combat and a look at how the game’s evolving AI will try and halt the player’s progress.

Narrated by Ultra Ultra’s CEO and game director Martin Emborg, and game and level designer Morten Hedegren, the 11-minute video follows the protagonist, En, as she makes her way through the Palace. Martin and Morten infiltrate a room in the Palace, whilst avoiding the Echoes of En that have learnt from her actions and play style, evolving and adapting, forcing the duo to adjust how they complete the level.

Echo is a character-driven story focusing on exploration and the world of Echo. The protagonist En has been tasked with a mission to recover a long lost lifeform from a legendary place known as the Palace. En quickly comes to realise that the Palace is not just a static location, but is infact a malevolent being that’s actively studying her, following her actions and using this knowledge to impede her progress by creating Echoes. These Echoes mimic En’s previous approach methods and will change their actions and tactics according to how the player takes to the levels in the game.
