The robots are coming, and Sweden is ok

GARPENBERG, Sweden — From contained in the management room carved into the rock greater than half a mile underground, Mika Persson can see the robots on the march, supposedly coming for his job right here on the New Boliden mine.

He’s superb with it.

Sweden’s famously beneficiant social welfare system makes this a spot not liable to fretting about automation — or a lot else, for that matter.

Persson, 35, sits in entrance of 4 pc screens, one displaying the loader he steers because it lifts freshly blasted rock containing silver, zinc and lead. If he have been down within the mine shaft working the loader manually, he can be inhaling mud and exhaust fumes.
