Waymo to purchase as much as 62,000 Chrysler Minivans for ride-hailing service

Waymo, the driverless-technology firm spun out of Google, has agreed to buy as many as 62,000 minivans from Fiat Chrysler Cars to be used in a ride-hailing service set to start industrial operations this yr.

The announcement Thursday is the newest signal that Waymo is relying on a fast liftoff for the service. In March, it agreed to buy as much as 20,000 compact vehicles for the service from Jaguar Land Rover starting in 2019.

Each the Chrysler Pacifica minivans and the Jaguar vehicles shall be geared up with the radars, cameras and sensors that Waymo has developed to allow the autos to drive themselves on public roads.
