Some early reviews of the Windows 8 RTM (Release-to-Manufacturing) have been less than glowing of Microsoft’s new OS, especially this one review. The general consensus among those who have tried the beta’s and the RTM, seems to be that Windows 8 is a step in the wrong direction and that is down to the actual Metro interface itself. Many PC users would rather Microsoft just have implemented a normal desktop only and included an updated start menu.
Already there are a couple of useful pieces of software to make things easier though. First there is Retro UI, that allows you to immediately bypass the Metro interface and go straight to the desktop. Next is Start Menu Modifier, which allows you to open the start screen without leaving the desktop, so avoiding the need to move from one interface to another.
