With colleges as targets, safety outfits flourish

The easiest way to defend a college from a gunman is to have a metallic detector. Or doorways that may be remotely locked. Or Twitter-trawling bots on the lookout for threats. Or bulletproof clipboards, whiteboards and backpacks.

So says the fast-growing group of corporations that promote faculty security gear. They’ve strengthened their advertising to highschool security officers within the wake of the taking pictures final month at a highschool in Parkland, Fla. However at the same time as faculty districts rethink their safety and search to extend their budgets, they’ve little steering from authorities companies or unbiased shopper teams on which gear would really shield their college students.
